So it's the Christmas season. A season that is often looked forward to with much anticipation but does not always happen as we expected it. We may not see all the family we wanted to or if we did maybe those old family arguments resurface. At times like this I often find myself thinking about the meaning of life. As a Christian, I find great consolation in the existence of God and his providence, not because its a way of making myself feel better but because its the only thing that makes sense in this insane world. I also always feel inspired by beautiful music and profound words, which I found brilliantly combined in this Youtube video:

Moliere's "The Learned Ladies"

So my college is doing a production of Shakespeare's "The Tempest" for their annual play. And I am fortunate enough to be the head Costume Designer once again. I say "once again" because I was last year as well, but I never got around to posting anything about it. So I figured I'd post some pictures now. The costumes are not great, but for being my first time using a sewing machine and with the very limited resourses we had, they're satisfactory I guess. Well anyways here they are:

Things that make me happy (ie. opposite of the things tat make me sad)

As a fan of the art form of film, I am saddened by bad movies that should have been good. Usually these are sequels to my favorite movies or ones that I have been looking forward to for a while. Examples of some of these disappointments are the new Star Wars Trilogy, the fourth Indianna Jones, the Matrix sequels and the list goes on. Naturally, when a good movie does come along the result is pure joy!
Just thinking about the Lord of the Rings movies makes me happy. Here are movies that were made with love, integrity, dedication and talent. If a LotR movie was ever made it would have to be good, and it was! Five years after the release of the Return of the King I still find my self smiling about it. Learning of the Hobbit movies that are going to be made I was excited but a little worried too, especially upon hearing that Peter Jackson would not be directing. But as soon as I discovered that he would, in fact, be writing and producing and the fantasy genius Guillermo del Toro would…

Needle Felting

I am interested in dollmaking. "Lalunia," (la-loon-ya) after all, means little doll in Polish. But I have yet to make one. In my research I've encountered many different art forms in which dolls are made. There's ball joined dolls, polymer clay dolls, cloth dolls and needle sculpted dolls. When I was looking into this last kind I was thinking of the kind made from pantyhose; however, when I typed "needle sculpture" into the YouTube search bar what came up surprised me and really piqued my interest. It was something I had never heard of before called Needle Felting, seen here:

There's a website about it too:

While I think I'll start with a cloth doll (probably a pattern from needle sculpting with wool is something I would really love to look into!

And the Winner is....

JOSHUA!!! And I'm so happy. I really did think that he and Katee were going to be the top 2. But at least Katee was the top girl...and she got $50,000! I'm glad Twitch didn't win. I really like him but Katee and Joshua were both better overall. Courtney was of course eliminated first of the 4 which was no surprise.
Well, the finale was great. It was a really awesome end to the season. There were six jugdes: Lil' C, Nigel, Mary, Debbie Allen, Mia and Adam Shankman. Each picked their favourite routines from the season and they were performed again. Poor Katee was in at least 3. She must have done something like 10 dances in two days (for the finale and final results show). I think that the judge's choices were pretty good. My favourite "Bleeding Love" was in there (bringing back Mark and Chelsie, yay!), Joshua and Katee re-did Bollywood and "No Air." Katee also did that Pas de Deux number with Will and the one with Twitch and the door by Mia Mic…

Well, so it turns out that only half of my prediction was right! Its so sad....Chelsie is so good at ballroom (and everything else!) and Mark is a little better than Twitch. Mark is just more versatile. Mark can pull off a ballroom routine, while Twitch not so much. In last Wednesday's Mambo Chelsie was spectacular, but was almost painful to watch him. Which reminds me of my theory...I really think that the dancers just aren't as good as in previous seasons. Ok, at least there were not as many good dancers or maybe the best dancers just didn't make it to the end. Will for example was great but for some reason got voted off...he or Mark are better and more versatile than Twitch. Well at least Joshua and Katee made it. They're the best and I really think one of them is going to win!

Top 4

So You Think You Can Dance Season 4 ends next week. So here are some predictions:
Getting eliminated tomorrow: Courtney and either Mark or Twitch
The Top 4: Definitely Katee, Joshua and Chelsie
The Winner: Probably Katee or Joshua (I was originally thinking Katee, but I've come to the conclusion that Joshua is pure awesomeness too!)

Almost August

Well I've accomplished one of my summer goals: I've read the Chronicles of Narnia. However, my other goal, cleaning my room before July, failed horribly. But hopefully I will clean it before August!! Once I've done that I'm starting some art projects that I've wanted to begin for a while. And since I'm almost done it looks like some art is happening real soon!!! Yay!!

I was so shocked by Will's elimination yesterday. I was so sure Comfort and Mark were going home, as much as I love Mark I've been slowly coming to see how good Will is, while Mark, although he has had some amazing routines he has also had some really bad ones, especially since he got split up from Chelsea. I loved Will's solo on Wednesday and was so sure he was safe. Well, its kind of scary but I think my predication for top four may be right: Mark, Joshua, Katee and Chelsie (I just realized that I've been spelling that wrong this whole time). Anyways, that means that I predict that Courtney and Twitch are going home next week.

So You Think You Can Die

Ahhh, I'm dying right now from the torture. I was so disappointed with today's episode of So You Think You Can Dance because there was a whole lot of mediocre dancing, or moving around is really what it was...ok, let me explain, there were some descent performances tonight, but there were overall more disappointments. First of all, Kherington and Mark. I miss the old couples...and I'm really disliking Kherington. I think she may be going home. I don't really care. But Mark is one of my favourites and I really don't want to loose him yet! I blame the choreography, it was nothing special. Ok, maybe he needs a role to play when he dances, but those are the best kind anyway! Whatever, pretty much Katee is my favourite favourite, so I guess as long as she's there I'll watch. I think Will is good, but he's so serious...he doesn't really do anything for me...neither does Courtney. Ok, so that leaves Joshua, Twitch and Gev for the boys, all of which I like…

So You Think You Can Dance So Far

So now that half the dancers have been eliminated from SYTYCD Season 4 I thought I'd reflect on what has happened so far.
First of all, I don't know if its just me but somehow it seems that the dancers aren't quite as good as last season's. Maybe they were more technically trained last year or something. I don' know. Well, probably I'm thinking of the end of the season, when just the best were left. I'll have to revisit this theory after this whole season is over.
Ok, down to my favorite dancers and routines. From week 1 the routine that really sticks in my mind is Katee and Joshua's Hip Hop, army style, choreographed by Napoleon and Tabitha D'Umo. The emotion was so believable and the movement so sharp. Chelsea and Mark's contemporary by Mia Michaels was a stand out as well.
In week 2, same two couples. The former doing Broadway, and the later performing the Argentine tango. Matt and Kourtni's foxtrot wasn't too bad either.
3rd week Joshua …

Yeah, so I still haven't completely finished cleaning my room; however, I have made some significant progress. I'm so close to actually accomplishing something I can almost taste it...and its delicious! Well anyways better get back to organizing stuff...

Invocation of the muse

No I'm not writing epic poetry but I could use some serious inspiration...well actually what I really need is a high dose of motivation. My head is swimming with ideas but lets just say that if any of them actually get made into a tangible piece of artwork it would be a miracle! Maybe I need to focus...I don't know, but whatever it is, its just sad. Before I was in school and had no time, now I'm so tired after work I don't feel like doing anything anymore. Well, I'm making a goal for myself; I am cleaning my disaster zone of a room and setting up a work station by the end of June! Holidays are already almost half over and I still haven't done any of the things I wanted to do. So hopefully by the time it's July I'll be ready to get sewing and drawing and cutting and pasting and sculpting and all that jazz!

The Caramel Dance!

Ok, I should be sleeping (which I will be doing momentarily) but I discovered this super catchy and energetic song that somehow has eluded my notice until now...So its called the Caramel Dance, also known as the "Caramell Dansen," which means the same thing except in Swedish, since the song is by a Swedish group called Caramell. It was released on the album Supergott in 2001 but seems to only have taken the world by storm recently. Some videos of the song can be found at the following links:

Have Time to Kill?

So these are various cakes that I either helped make or helped eat! The last one is the only one that was store bought. They are: yule log from last Christmas that I pretty much made on my own, a babka (polish yeast cake) made for this past Easter, a mazurek (another polish cake we made for Easter) and finally my birthday cake from yesterday!

Ok, maybe I missed a week or something. So anyways, I really want to start some art projects. I have a lot of ideas for illustrations, costumes and doll cloths; however, I still have one exam tomorrow and I start work shortly after that. So I don't know when I'll get the time. So until then I'll post fast stuff like quotes.
This quote I actually got from my Survey of Literature exam, and I had to write an essay about it using literary examples (I used Hamlet, Raskolnikov from Crime and Punishment and the Misfit from "A Good Man is Hard to Find".)

"In a mad world only the mad are sane." -Akira Kurosawa

Quote of the week...again...

I don't have time at the moment to post too much, thats why i am pretty much only posting quotes; however, soon I will have more time to post more interesting things (eg. pictures, drawings etc). Well anyways here is this week's quote:

“Of all the things you wear, your expression is the most important.” -Janet Lane

Quote of Last Week (Yes, I'm a bit late)

“I have not failed, I’ve found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” -Thomas Edison

Quote of the Week

“Success comes before work only in the dictionary.” -Anonymous

Quote of the Week

“Be like a postage stamp-stick to one thing till you get there.” -Josh Billings

Welcome to my new blog. My old one, which was called "Niche of the Emileon," was having issues so I closed it down and started this new one. One thing I would like to do is post regularly. I think I will try to do stuff like "Quote of the week" or "cute thing of the week" among my other sporadic posts. Hopefully I will keep to this plan. Well I better get posting! Enjoy!
